amazon logo Demo is Good, no problem
but when you actually buy the game - Game is good when or if it works , patch 1.1 was ok, patch 1.2 made game machanics worse
game is very buggy, if you're patient and loves game bugs, then this is the game for you - waste your money somewhere else and wait here at amazon until the game price goes down under $5

update review

Game runs around 1836-1936

After some game time frame say around year 1880, the mechanics of the game start to get taxing on itself - you'll notice major lags when doing certain important things (such as raising troops menu , viewing pops etc) depending on what you need done it can take minutes before the system evens response and shows what you need to do, then it will allow you to do it and then lags for a few more minutes on you. And no I don't have an 8086 processor..even on a dual core system it's bad, haven't tried it on my quad sytem yet but i expect nothing to change as this are game mechanic problems. one work around this problem is to exit out of game and restart (then you wait for 5 more minutes to start game as you can't skip start up screens etc...)

seems like Paradox Relies on modders to fix the game up for them for free and I don't blame them for it as paradox have great ideas on games (from the first EU to Vic2) but just could'nt get things right after a decade.

Update - they are making patch 1.3 but the resource for that is when they have time for it they will get it out (LOL)

if you're a fan of Total War series, stay that way - this game is more of a chess game than what you know from TW

amazon logo Victoria 2 work just fine.
I am an avid player of wargames. I own the first Victoria and I loved it. Victoria 2 seems familiar from the start. There is some major changes to it. You no longer have to control the population as closely. The economic model and factory production has also been changed and has received a fair amount of automation.
I completed two entire long campaigns and it is no push over. The political infighting within your empire makes you keep mobile armies within your territory to squash rebellions. The learning curve is fairly steep but once you get a handle on the different screens you can control your empire well.
Visually looks much better than the first one.
As of bugs, I never had one. Ran smoothly.
So if you played the Europa Universalis series you can certainly get into Victoria.
One note, during the game have to keep a close eye on Cassius Bellis ( excuses to declare war) without reasons to attack, you get a bad reputation and others will not want to have a close diplomatic relationship with you.
If you can multi task and are able to run an empire as well as its internal economy and politics go for this game.
You want to invade everything in sight, look somewhere else. This game requires strategy and not just military pride.

amazon logo Boring game
I don't know what I was expecting but this wasn't it. Too much detail not much bang. Just not my type of game.
